Scientists, researchers, and scholars increasingly rely on digital information to do their work, raising the demand for skilled "digital curation," or the active management and enhancement of big data assets.

At this information-gathering symposium, a National Research Council committee that is examining the educational and career requirements for digital curation will hear from invited government, business, and academic experts about the need for skilled information curators and the necessary types of educational preparation.

The symposium will take place on Thursday, July 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT in Room 100 of the National Academies' Keck Center, 500 Fifth St., N.W., Washington D.C. Reporters who wish to attend should register with the Office of News and Public Information; tel. 202-334-2138 or e-mail news@nas.edu.

Those who cannot attend can listen to a live webcast of the event at http://www.nationalacademies.org. For a complete agenda, visit http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/brdi/PGA_070217.
