The idea of WEB 2.0 started as something purely social.
While this might be true, it has developed ?into something that businesses are embracing as an integral part of their marketing and reputation management strategies. As times change and ?the internet continues to evolve, businesses need to change too or you can bet ?they won?t get the traffic or sales they want.
Having said that, bear in mind, in order to find success with social networking sites like Facebook, a business must never lose sight of ?the very components, options and resources that make each of theses sites different and unique. Thees sites are intended for people to socialize and become part of and participate in communities and networks of ?people with similar needs and ideas. ?So, although you are a business, if you want to connect with customers to sell products or services, you must first build a social networking community around your brand.
For example, if you?re a seasoned virtual assistant for example, and you want to sell information products to help others in the industry, you can start a group on Facebook that is designed to teach or provide support to other virtual assistants. If they like the group, they will stay connected and over time, build a trusting relationship that will likely lead them to buy your products and servies.
One of the best advantages to using Facebook for business is that you have access to the profiles and information for a large number of people at your fingertips. For a business owner, this kind of information is critical and will help you target the right people who are most interested in your product or service. Before social media, this kind of data, if you could get it at all, would cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
FACEBOOK IS GROWING
You already know that, Facebook, by all counts is one of the largest social networking and Web 2.0 sites on the internet now ?and it just keeps growing. Although it started out as a site primarily for college students, it has in just a fairly short time grown into an ?epic magnet? worldwide!
There are literally hundreds of social sites? and many are great for business. However, unlike some of these social sites, Facebook has now actually embraced the idea that we can use their site to build our businesses. ?As seen with the recent roll out of the new Timeline format, the founder and developers of Facebook have demonstrated their commitment to providing a user friendly experience for everyone on the site, including business owners.
That said, bear in mind that there?s an art to using Facebook in that way. If you don?t fully embrace the Web 2.0 and the way social networking works, your best efforts and time spent trying to build your business using Facebook will be a waste of your time and resources.
Time after time I hear business owners giving up and drawing the false conclusion that only large brands use Facebook successfully for business. That is just not true and a great ebook I found, ??Facebook For Business? lays it all out. It?s a complete, easy to follow guide to learning how to use Facebook to build your business. Some of the topics covered include building a customer base, testing out a product, and using the site?s features to help your business grow. I recommend it!
