Univison scores forums with Obama, Romney

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Univision won't get the presidential debate it wanted, but President Obama and Mitt Romney have agreed to "Meet the Candidate" forums hosted by the network and Facebook, in which they will address issues important to Latino voters.

After the presidential debate moderators were announced August 15, Univision president and CEO Randy Falco criticized the lack of a Hispanic moderator, telling the Commission on Presidential Debates that Hispanics "do not have a voice in the debates."

He suggested another debate hosted by Univision's own Jorge Ramos or Maria Elena Salinas, co-anchors of "Noticiero Univision."

That isn't happening. But the candidates have agreed to appear separately, Univision said, with Ramos and Salinas moderating.

The events, held in front of a live audience, will focus on education and the future of the Hispanic community. Univision will engage audiences on Facebook ahead of time at the Univision Noticias Facebook page.

Facebook's election hub, the U.S. Politics on Facebook page, will also highlight the events.

Details of the events will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
